Special Council Event: Theatre Workshop & Performance of Charlotte's Web by Wheelock Family Theatre on April 11

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts has partnered with Wheelock Family Theatre in Boston for a special performance of Charlotte's Web. E. B. White's inspired tale celebrates a friendship that transcends differences. First published in 1957, Charlotte’s Web is for all generations.

QUOTE: Enduring Lesson From Girl Scout Years

"I think the most enduring lesson I was taught through my experiences of being a Girl Scout was that I was a member of a larger community. I out-grew my uniforms and badges years ago, but the memories of visiting nursing homes or organizing Earth Day tree plantings or my summers camping with girls from all different backgrounds will stay with me always."

Musician & Girl Scout Alumna

IT's YOUR WORLD - CHANGE IT! --- Facts on the New Girl Scout Leadership Journeys

Girl Scouts USA (GSUSA) has unveiled a series of Leadership Journeys for Girl Scouts. Each Journey is a coordinated series of activities grouped around a single theme and delivered over a period of time.
**Each journey is tied to some of Girl Scouts' 15 national outcomes for girls, as defined in the Girl Scout Leadership Model.
**These outcomes are integral to the three leadership keys - Discover, Connect & Take Action.
** GSUSA unveiled one leadership journey for each grade level.
** These initial journeys invite girls to explore a specific leadership theme for their level.
** Subsequent journeys will layer on more multidisciplinary content, like science and technology, healthy living, and the outdoors.
** This first series of journeys, It's Your World—Change It!, is summarized below.
Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden -- In this journey for kindergartners and first-graders, a favorite pastime—gardening— meets the Girl Scout Law. The result is a storybook world of flowers and little girls who, together, do great things. Girl Scout Daisies will especially enjoy meeting the colorful, global characters who teach them to live the Girl Scout Law. The adult "how-to" guide offers Garden Story Time tips, key ideas for garden projects, and all the Girl Scout history and traditions needed for an adventure starring Amazing Daisy, a new flower friend for Girl Scout Daisies.
Brownie Quest: Follow the Trails... of the ELF Adventure and the Three Keys -- What are the most important keys for a Girl Scout to own? This quest, which has second- and third-graders traveling along two colorful trails—one they can enjoy on their own and one they explore with their Girl Scout group—answers that question in a very special way. On this quest, Girl Scout Brownies will meet three new friends and a bright and shining elf—in a brand new Brownie story meant to inspire their own Take Action projects. The accompanying adult guide offers all the tips needed to create and maintain a sense of fun and mystery along the entire quest. Instructions for a Brownie Brainstorm, Brownie Team Trade, and other activities ensure a quality and fun time for the girls.
Agent of ChangePower: In this journey, there's a whole spiral of it waiting for Girl Scout Juniors. This powerful journey is filled with ceremonies and circles, real-life heroines, and special new characters, including the fashion-savvy spider named Dez. Along the way, girls learn how their own power combines into team power and then moves out to become community power (kind of like how Dez weaves her web from the inside out). The journey's centerpiece is a comic story of girl heroines who will inspire the real-life Girl Scout Juniors as they take action to improve their own community.
aMAZE: The Twists and Turns of Getting AlongLife is a maze of relationships, and this journey has Girl Scout Cadettes maneuvering through all its twists and turns to find true friendships, plenty of confidence, and even peace. The adult guide offers tips for talking about relationship issues with girls, and pointers for understanding Girl Scout Cadettes' development and creating a safe, welcoming space.
GIRLtopia: Toward an Ideal World for Girls -- Girl Scout Seniors know the world is not ideal. This journey is their chance to imagine a perfect world—for girls. They're invited to create their vision as an art project—in any medium of their choice. Then they'll take action to make their vision a reality. Leaders, after all, are visionaries!
Your Voice, Your World: The Power of Advocacy -- How often have you seen something that really needed to be changed and wondered, "Why isn't someone doing something about that?" This journey gives Girl Scout Ambassadors a way to be that someone—an advocate with the power to start the first flutter of real and lasting change. While creating their own "butterfly effect," they'll gain an array of skills—such as networking, planning, and learning to speak up for what they believe—that will benefit them as they prepare for life beyond high school.

WAGGGS Pin Ceremony

I looked through My Girl Scout bin after the discussion at Tuesday's leader meeting and I found this handout on WAGGGS Pin Ceremonies that I received during training.
It is posted below so Troop leaders can do with their girls...
(If any other leaders have Ceremonies to share with Framingham Leaders, please e-mail me and I'll post here at http://www.framinghamgirlscouts.blogspot.com/)

***
This ceremony, which can be used on Thinking Day or during national Girl Scout Week, is a nice way to explain the meaning of the WAGGGS pin to new Girl Scouts.
To do this ceremony,
you'll need:
felt cutout of the WAGGGS pin, which one can make from blue and yellow felt.
a large yellow circle
a slightly smaller blue circle (so that when you put the blue circle on top of the yellow circle, there's the yellow border outside of it)
yellow felt cutouts of the trefoil and the fire symbol at the base of the trefoil, the two stars and the compass needle.
.
To start: All participants stand in a horseshoe.
Somewhere, have a table or felt board available for the construction of the pin as the ceremony proceeds.
Leader: The horseshoe formation symbolizes the open friendship circle. In the open end of the horseshoe stand our sister Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world. If they were actually here, our horseshoe would become a completed circle, having no beginning or end.

Series of Q&As
As the questions are asked, have a Scout come forward and place the part of the pin they asked about on the felt board.
What is the world pin?
It is the pin of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. We are going to construct such a pin. As we do, let us consider very carefully the reason for its color and design. Then we will know how deep a feeling of international friendship it can inspire in it.
What does the gold circle around the edge stand for?
The gold band surrounding our pin symbolizes the sun that shines on children all over the world.
Why is the world pin blue?
The blue background symbolizes the sky above us, all over the world.
Why do we have a trefoil in the World pin?
The gold trefoil is the sign of Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding around the world. The 3 parts of the trefoil stand for the 3 parts of the Promise.
There are 2 stars on the World pin. What does the left star stand for?
The star on the left, the same side as our heart, stands for the pledge that all Girl Scouts and Girl Guides try, on their honor, to keep: the Promise.
What does the other star stand for?
The right star, on the side of a helping hand, stands for the Girl Guide and Girl Scout code of conduct--the GG/GS Law.
What does the pointer in the middle stand for?
We place a compass needle in the center, to serve as a guide pointing towards the right way in life.
What does the base of the trefoil mean?
At the base of the trefoil we place the flame. Its burning represents love for humanity and international friendship.

Next: Present World (WAGGGS) pins to the Scouts who have not received it yet.
Perhaps, have older Troop members place the pins on the younger Scouts.

Finally: As a Troop, read the Promise.
