This fall event is for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and their families who want to learn about America’s past. It was in 1820 that Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was first published, thrilling audiences with its mystery, action, and horror! This ghoulish short story tells the tale of a Hessian soldier who comes back to haunt a small rural community while looking for the head that he lost during a Revolutionary War battle.
Learn about this tale and its time through storytelling, demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Daisy Workshop on Nov. 13 in Worcester

Treasured Earth on Saturday, November 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Worcester Art Museum.
See how artists have treasured our natural world in centuries of paintings. In the studio, use recycled resources to create and decorate a box for your own treasures. Have fun exploring the galleries and making art in the museum’s studios.
This program can go towards the green Learning Petal (Use ResourcesWisely) and fits nicely into to the Earth and Sky Daisy Journey.
Program includes a custom tailored, 30-minute guided tour followed by a 90-minute creative studio activity.

Program Level: Daisies & Juliette Scouts in K & 1
Cost: $20 per Daisy

Registration will remain open until full or 2 weeks prior to the event.

Amazing Relationship Workshop in Worcester on Oct. 28 for Cadette Scouts

aMAZING Relationships: Thursday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Worcester Service Center

The goal of this program is to help teens be safe as they develop healthy relationships with friends. A professional teen counselor will guide girls through games, activities and role plays to help them understand the attitudes and behaviors associated with dating abuse and violence and to correct them. While they’ll learn to identify healthy and unhealthy relationships and how to help friends who are in unhealthy relationships, they’ll also get a chance to talk about the myths surrounding teen dating violence and sexual assault and how to challenge others, by being an active bystander.
Some requirements from the aMAZE Journey will be met during this interactive session.
Please note that this program contains sensitive topics and will require a “Sensitive Issues” permission slip from each girl’s parent/guardian.

Program Levels: Cadettes Only (Juliette Scouts may also register)

Craft & Game Jamboree for Scouts on Nov. 6 in Easton

A Craft & Game Jamboree for Girls
GET BALANCED. This program is open to the children of adult participants who attend the Adult Learning Conferences. Girls will make and take home crafts, play games, and more!
Be sure to sign yourself up for one of the conferences in November and sign your daughter up for this terrific fun-filled day. Adults and girls will eat together. Lunch included in cost.

Gold Award Orientation on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Easton

Gold Award Orientation
Girls, Troop adults, and parents are encouraged to join us for an orientation to the Gold Award Process, the highest achievement a girl can earn in Girl Scouting! We’ll explore the pre-requisites and give tips on tackling the Journey books. We’ll discuss and show examples of root issues and unique perspectives for creating sustainable solutions to them. We’ll go over a timeline of the process and what it takes to earn the Gold Award! When we give girls the tools they need, they spread their wings and fly! This orientation will be held at the Adult Learning Conferences in Easton.

Brownie Animal Try-It Workshop on Nov. 6 in Walpole

What better place to explore the world of animals than at Norfolk Aggie? Enjoy a tour of the animal science department. Learn how people care for the animals. You can see the animals up close, too! Learn all about Pocket Pets such as mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, rabbits, hedgehogs and chinchillas. You will go on a scavenger hunt through the Animal Science building and may even come across birds, reptiles, fish and amphibians!
Registration cost includes the Try-It.

Junior Geocaching Workshop in Waltham on Saturday, Oct. 30

Nature Geocaching: GET GOING.
Try a different twist on geocaching, the popular GPS adventure activity. Using global positioning system devices and a few clues, girls will search for specific trees, rocks and natural objects to learn their stories.

Brownie Letterboxing Event in Waltham on Saturday, Oct. 30

GET GOING. This is an intro to a great outdoor sport! With maps and clues in hand, girls head off on an outdoor nature adventure, discovering boxes and collecting stamped images for their logbook.

Do you love to read?
Join GSEM’s Virtual Book Club and blog with other Girl Scouts about your thoughts and feelings about books.
You will have to check the blog twice a month to participate in this group.
Together, the group will chose books to read that are also movies. It is possible that if a book is chosen to read and the movie is coming out we will try to meet at the theater to see it together. Most of the time, we will watch the movies on our own before we gather online to discuss the things we liked and didn't like about the two. Each book will be a 6-week session.
Once registered you can participate in just one book or in all for the year.

Babysitting is an awesome way to learn the responsibilities of caring for others and earn extra cash. This excellent training includes instruction on First Aid, safety precautions, child development, emergency procedures, age-appropriate activities, etc.

A good Program Aide is a team player who knows Girl Scouting inside and out! Role play to anticipate what happens when you don’t get along with the adults or girls with whom you have to work. What happens when a girl gets homesick, or hurt, or doesn’t want to join in? What do the Girl Scout Promise and Law mean to you? What you learn as a PA will be helpful if you want to work at large council events.

Cool Cosmetics Program for Cadettes on Oct 20 in Belmont

Cool Cosmetics: GET SMART.
This program was such a huge hit with Cadette Scouts that Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Council (GSEM) decided to bring it back again!
Create your own make up and toiletries at this hands-on program and hear from women in the engineering field to see if you might have a future in an engineering related career!
